Learning on the Go: Benefits of Online Training Programs

Improving the employees' performances is one of the main concerns of the management team. With increased productivity, the company can earn more and expand. One of the teaching methods that companies can use is an online training program. An online training program has several benefits that traditional teaching can't provide.

Setting up a seminar for the entire company may be a tedious task since the schedule must be compatible with everyone. One of the benefits of online training programs is its flexibility. Since most of the modules are supplied over the Internet, the employees can access them anytime, anywhere. An online training program eliminates the hassle of finding the right time for the learning process. Rather than fitting it into their schedules, employees can do it whenever they have time. Some online training programs can be done during breaks in the office while some can be done as take-home assignments.

Another benefit of online training programs is its cost-effectiveness. Compared with traditional classes, they offer cheaper expenses since there are minimal requirements. The company doesn't need to spend much on supplies like books and modules since these can be uploaded online. With just a computer and an Internet connection, the employee can do the modules at home. An online training program also eliminates the need to travel and a big venue for external training sessions, helping the company save on additional expenses.

With just a click of their mouse, employees can access their online courses. The company can also set up a forum where in the employees can input their ideas regarding the lessons. This is helpful for companies that have several employees designated in different locations. What's even better is that the resources for the training can be reused and updated for future trainings. An online training program like CRM online training also allows employees to learn at their own pace and preference. As long as the company's operation will not be at stake, employees can complete the training at the time most convenient for them.

Introduction to Drupal

Drupal is an open source CMS (Content Management System) platform that empowers individuals, teams and communities to easily and quickly build, deploy and manage websites. The websites usually contain content that can be any combination of text, graphics, audio and video etc. A CMS provides a number of features that simplifies the process of developing and managing websites, including the following:

It provides a tool set for authoring, publishing and managing the contents of the websites.

It provides an administrative interface.

It provides a database repository for the content and a mechanism for associated information

It provides a component for creating and managing the menus and navigational elements.

It provides a component for user management.

It provides a security framework.

Drupal was written by a student of Dutch university, Dries Buytaert. The word Drupal was derived from the Dutch word "druppel" which means "drop" (druppel: "a drop in a water droplet"). The project was initially written by Dries for sharing messages and events with his friends but soon it turned into an open source project in 2001 which expanded the features of CMS on web. The project worked widely, ranging from personal blogs to the large/complex corporate and government sites. The source code of Drupal is written in PHP and distributed under GNU General Public License. The most interesting part is that, Drupal is compatible with all the operating systems and, free to download and use. Drupal can run on any platform that supports both, a web server capable of running PHP 5.2 or higher (the web server could be Apache, Microsoft IIS, Lighttpd, nginx) and a database such as MySQL, Postgre SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SQLite, MariaDB, MongoDB etc. (For Drupal-7 the database must be MYSQL 5.0 or higher, PostgreSQL 8.3 or higher etc.) There are many versions like Drupal-5, Drupal-6, Drupal-7 etc but the version Dupal-6 and Drupal-7 are only active and are maintained now a days, the version 5 is not used any more. The version 7 was released on 5 Jan 2011 and the versions 6.22 and 7.2 were released on 25 May 2011. The next version 8 is under development and will be released soon.

The Origins of Laptop Brand Names

As is known to all that there are many famous laptop brands in the world, such as Acer, Apple, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Thinkpad and so on. But how many people know how these brand names are created? Let us talk about this.

Lenovo named itself "Legend" when it was founded in 1988. But it proved to be a stumbling block when Lenovo planned to enter international market. "Legend" had been registered by almost all European countries and it covered fields from PCs, food, and automobile to clothes. As a result, Lenovo changed "Legend" to "Lenovo". "Novo" is a Latin root and it means innovation. "Le" is a part of "legend" and owns the meaning of "legend". The whole word "Lenovo" has the meaning of innovative legend. It is reported that Lenovo tells the world that Lenovo will leave the world a legend with the innovative minds.

In 1992, IBM developed a portable computer but it racked all the company members' wits about how to name it. One day, when the workers gathered again to discuss how to call this new computer, the project leader suddenly threw a pad with a word "THINKPAD" on the envelopment. And then someone cried out "Thinkpad! Thinkpad is a pad can think. It is the best name!" Finally, Thinkpad started its legend in the PC market.

HP was founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard in the garage and HP later on became the most successful company in Silicon Valley. It was said that Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard had a debate about the name. Bill Hewlett wanted Hewlett-Packard while Dave Packard stuck to Packard-Hewlett. So they decided to flip a coin. Hewlett won at last and the company was named as "Hewlett-Packard". The name was shortened as "HP". HP means innovation, innovation and innovation.

Users who know Dell will surely know how this name is generated. Dell traces its origins to 1984. Michael Dell created PCs Limited when he was just a student at the University of Texas. He created a selling miracle and an epoch-making business pattern when he was only 18 years old.

Iphone 4s

Apple is still on top of the smartphone wars with its newly released iPhone 4S. You might be wondering why they are calling it 4S instead of iPhone 5. Well, maybe Steve Jobs was worried they might run out of numbers when they release powerful gadgets in the future. Nevertheless, the 4S is quite a formidable foe to Windows, BlackBerry, and Android smartphones. Here are a couple of reasons why.

The A5 Chip, or rather, the A5 super chip, is the best thing that ever happened to smartphones. It is a dual-core processor that gives you that speed, power, and efficiency that has never been achieved before in any smartphone, at least not in this level.

Everything about the 4S is perfect (until of course, another better iPhone comes out), including the performance, camera, 1080 high-definition video, and the Siri Intelligence, You do not want anything less.

You can literally feel the difference with the 4S, down to the very touch. What you like about the product is that the sensitivity and response of the touchscreen is unlike any other versions you encountered in the past. Nice and accurate, I find the responsiveness ideal especially when playing games or type messages on the screen. You hate those times when you die or lose control of the games you play on smartphones because of the lack of accuracy of the touchscreens.

You also fall in love with the camera. You will forget that you are actually holding a PHONE and not a stand-alone digital camera when you use the 4S camera. The 8 megapixels alone should ring a bell and you know that this camera is no joke. Engineered with new optics that is very professional especially with lighting, you are given the chance to shoot high-quality photos and pretend to be a pro with the kind of results you get. The f/2.4 aperture allows more light to enter, giving you sharper and brighter images.

Steve Jobs really focused a lot on the camera for the iPhone, because the image signal processor from the A5 chip gives you the freedom to explore the focus, depth, and exposure of your shoot. Interestingly, the same feature is found on high quality DSLR cameras. The image signal processor allows the iPhone 4S to shoot photos faster without losing the quality of the images you get. You do not even have to worry about storage, even if you love taking hundreds of pictures because the iCloud is available.

Remote storage and file management is now available through the Apple iCloud. Here, you can store all the music, photos, documents, apps, and even make a photo streaming. The feature allows 4S users to hook into the iCloud, a remote and secure place where they can store their data. This feature is exclusive for Apple users.

Overall, the iPhone 4S is more than just expanded memory. Everything about the 4S is speed, efficiency, and convenience. The powerful A5 chip makes all of these possible. Most of all, you will love the new camera.

Effects of Technology on Education

Education has changed significantly in the last twenty years. One of the main reasons education has undergone so many changes is because of technological development. In 1990, computers and other forms of technology served a minimal role in the classroom. Today, many if not most college students attend class with a laptop. I am writing about some of the biggest advantages technology gave to education.

Technology has made research much easier. Before online Encyclopedias, Google Scholar, JSTOR, and other online research tools were available, students were forced to spend numerous hours in the library. With the new tools, students can conduct research faster in the comfort of their homes. With Google and other search engines, students can find relevant information faster and more efficiently. Also, there is no more need for intensive memorization as information is more readily available.

New also technology allows for a faster, more efficient, and more interactive classroom experience. With Powerpoint presentations and projectors, there is no need for blackboards and whiteboards. With clickers, students can take quizzes during the classroom.

These developments also help improve tutoring services. Online tutoring programs are becoming available. One-on-one in-home tutoring programs are also being aided these developments. Tutors can bring laptops to sessions allowing them to look up information, and show examples to the student more easily.

Wi-fi technology allows students to study in more comfort and a more ergonomic setting.

New mathematical software such as Maple and Mathematica allows students to make a computer algebra computations more easily. Software like Matlab and Scilab allows students to make numerical computations more easily. There is no more need for a line rule. Advanced Texas Instrument and Casio calculators allow students to solve equations and produce graphs. Online software such as Webassign allows students to submit mathematics assignments online with instant feedback.

American Education Is Lacking in Technology

A summit hosted by the Foundation for Excellence in Education was held earlier this week in Washington, D.C. to discuss the U.S. education system. Among all topics presented, one in which figures from all political parties and CEO's from prominent U.S. corporations agreed on was that technology was not utilized enough in the classroom.

New forms of technology have had a great impact on the everyday lives of Americans. The way we share information has been forever changed by devices like smartphones and iPads, and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. But summit attendees agreed that technology has not been used to its full potential when it comes to education.

Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education finds it interesting that technology has impacted the way that people interact socially with one another but has not fully made its way into U.S. schools. "It [technology] has transformed how we do business, but technology has yet to transform how we provide education," he said.

Today's students are not learning about technology in the classroom and are failing to meet the expectations of tech-savvy employers when they enter the workforce. William Simon, CEO of the U.S. division of Wal-Mart said that young workers often lack the ability to "adapt to the ever-changing technology that surrounds them on the job." Wal-Mart, the nation's largest employer has begun offering discounted rates for its employees to take online courses through the online school American Public University. At the summit, William pointed out the benefit of training students to use technology at an early age so that they will develop the skills to use new forms of technology that are developed in the future.

Online Education - Five Leading Schools

A good online education institute should have several qualities that make them a top-notch school. Among them are accreditation, flexibility, and student support systems. The following schools have all of these. While these schools have good reputations as online college institutions, there are many more just as good. The most important factor for selecting the college or university is that it is right for you.

University of Phoenix.

Founded in 1976 the Uof P is the largest private college in the US. with more than 150,000 students. The North Central Association of Schools and Colleges and the Higher Learning Commission accredit Uof P. Its Masters in nursing school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing, and it's counseling tract by the Council for Accreditation in Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Uof P is an entirely online learning institute. New classes start each week, so it is very flexible. The counselors will help you with registration, answer questions about financial aid or other questions. The University of Phoenix has a large selection of degrees and classes you can attend. Doctoral students are required to have 19 days of residential instruction.

Capella University

Located in Minneapolis, MN, Capella is accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges, and the Higher Learning Commission. It currently has approximately 19,000 online students. Classes start continuously, so you can enter a program at anytime. Materials are available 24/7 on the Internet. You can receive credit from previous experience through a DANTES exam or from previous classes through a CLEP exam. Capella University has five schools: Business and Technology, Education, Human Services, and Psychology.

Aspen

Aspen was the first University to offer a 100% online masters degree in business (MBA). Twenty-five years later the school still offers accredited online college degree programs. The Distance Education and Training Council Accrediting Commission accredit Aspen. Internet classes last eight weeks and start five times a year. You can earn credit by exam through DANTES and CLEP examinations. Aspen is an adult-focused college, with course work entirely online. Programs in business, technology, education, nursing and criminal justice are offered. Aspen offers a decrease in tuition if paid up front: a bachelor's degree will only cost 4,500 plus the cost of books.

Technology Revolutions in Education

Technology has simply revolutionized the way humans live and work. It has become a necessity, if for a day we are deprived of electricity we feel our lives have come to an end. We have become dependent on electricity to an extent from where there is no return. Technology has allowed us to unleash many hidden secrets of the universe and has put many interesting challenges for the people like traveling to the moon and going deep in the ocean.

Technology has entered all important aspects of our lives. Revolution in industries was the result of introduction of machinery. Now, the entire workforce on earth is directly or indirectly linked to technology, millions daily reap huge benefits from technology. Education is one sector that demands for technology to the maximum. Technology very smoothly fits in to the academic activities going on in schools. With technology in schools parents can keep a stricter eye on their kids as the school administration has the contacts of parents and they can be immediately informed if the kid bunks school or arrives late. With voice mail, the parents are also kept in loop about the progress of their children. It has also facilitated teachers to a great extent. They can send homework to the students from home, receive assignments online and even grade them on the computer.

Colleges and universities have experienced more advantages than schools. These institutes have made online libraries on dedicated networks. These libraries have all the courses and much other relevant information. Students and teachers are given access to these libraries. Using the sources of online libraries the teachers can prepare better notes and lectures for the class whereas the students have unlimited access to books and journals that greatly helps them in understanding the subjects easily and more independently; the students can even search for term papers.

History of Educational Technology

There is no written evidence which can tell us exactly who has coined the phrase educational technology. Different educationists, scientists and philosophers at different time intervals have put forwarded different definitions of Educational Technology. Educational technology is a multifaceted and integrated process involving people, procedure, ideas, devices, and organization, where technology from different fields of science is borrowed as per the need and requirement of education for implementing, evaluating, and managing solutions to those problems involved in all aspects of human learning.

Educational technology, broadly speaking, has passed through five stages.

The first stage of educational technology is coupled with the use of aids like charts, maps, symbols, models, specimens and concrete materials. The term educational technology was used as synonyms to audio-visual aids.

The second stage of educational technology is associated with the 'electronic revolution' with the introduction and establishment of sophisticated hardware and software. Use of various audio-visual aids like projector, magic lanterns, tape-recorder, radio and television brought a revolutionary change in the educational scenario. Accordingly, educational technology concept was taken in terms of these sophisticated instruments and equipments for effective presentation of instructional materials.

The third stage of educational technology is linked with the development of mass media which in turn led to 'communication revolution' for instructional purposes. Computer-assisted Instruction (CAI) used for education since 1950s also became popular during this era.

The fourth stage of educational technology is discernible by the individualized process of instruction. The invention of programmed learning and programmed instruction provided a new dimension to educational technology. A system of self-learning based on self-instructional materials and teaching machines emerged.
